Frequently visited by trekkers from all over the world, the Annapurna base camp is nothing less than a dream coming to reality. This trek is going to leave you treasuring the views and may be returning often.
HIGHLIGHTS
This is a less time-consuming trek that takes you close to the base of many mountains, all with a height of 7000 to 8000 meters.
This trek will give you stunning scenery of the mountains all along your trail. You will be able to see revered mountains like theMachapuchare, Annapurna south and Hiunchuli even before starting off your journey. What is better is that you will be traveling with these views all along the trail.
Mostly, people get to stay in the traditional treehouses that are owned by the local people of Nepal and additionally you will also get to have authentic Nepali food here.
This trek also makes you travel through the protected areas of the Annapurna sanctuary and you may get to see the rarest varieties of flowers and animals.
Being surrounded by high mountains, this sanctuary receives sunlight for a small amount of only 7 hours everyday. This leads to the development of a unique ecosystem.
You can be assured that the trek is never monotonous as the way takes you through a wide combination of elevations and depths.
LOCATION
This place is a glacial basin sitting at a high elevation directly 40 km towards the North side of Pokhara. This is a plateau with an elevation of 4000 meters being surrounded by the Annapurna range.
HOW TO GET TO POKHARA
The place Pokhara is the beginning point of the trek. However, this place does not have any railway station. It is only possible to reach here by flight, take a flight till the Tribhuvan International Airport. This is the airport of Nepal located in Kathmandu, although Pokhara has a landing field of its own.
If you are traveling from India, you can travel to Varanasi or Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and catch a bus or book a private car to Pokhara after crossing the Sunauli border. This will take around 8 hours.
ITINERARY
After your arrival at Pokhran check in a hotel for the night and you may also visit the local places like Phewa lake, Tal Barahi Temple, International mountain museum.
The next day, set out for the journey. Sitting at an altitude of 2000 meters, Ghandruk is the first location for the trail. To reach this place, you need to drive to Sauli Bazar via Nayapul and then eventually trek to Ghandruk. This is the biggest village of the trek made of stone-built small houses. Rest for the day and you may also visit the museum here. The next location is Chhomrong at an altitude of 2200 meters. From the previous village, you need to take an ascend of 1 hour and then descend. Followed by this you need to make an uphill climb to reach Chhomrong. Throughout this trek you will be accompanied by views of small villages and mountains.
The next location is Bamboo. When you reach this place you will be able to witness the Gushing Chomorng river below.
Next day, trek from Bamboo to Deurali that will require you to cover a distance of 9 kms. This journey is a moderate level of ascend followed by which you need to cross the Modi Khola river.
Finally, trek from this place to the destination, the Annapurna base camp. The trek till here is a bit tiring and may leave the beginners to struggle with the path filled with boulders. The terrain is relatively rocky till the Machapuchre base camp and from here you will reach your final stop.
From the Annapurna base, the majestic Annapurna I gives you the immense joy of overcoming the struggles till here. This paradise surrounded by a chain of mountain ranges will make you want to stay forever, the feeling is inexplicable. If you get lucky, you may also get to spot some Marmuts.
For the journey back to Pokhara, return to Bamboo from here drive to Pokhara via Jhinnu bridge.
