So, let’s get to the point: how can you increase the power of your electric golf cart? The first thing to realize about DC golf cart motors is that:
Voltage equals speed.
Torque = Amperage
If you want to be like Speedy Gonzalez and get more speed out of your Club Car, EZGO, or Yamaha golf cart, boost the engine RPM. ‘How do I do that?’ you’re undoubtedly asking yourself. There are two methods to go about it:
1.) Use a motor with a greater RPM rating. This enables you to ignore your voltage.

2. Improve the Performance of Your Golf Cart Motor
A bigger field coil is used within series wound DC torque motors. A bigger field coil within the motor generates a stronger magnetic field and holds the armature much more firmly, delivering higher torque. This is a fantastic choice if you want more torque in your Club Car, EZGO, or Yamaha golf cart but aren’t concerned with speed.

If these components are not changed in tandem with the speed or torque motors, you risk producing a “bottleneck” scenario (which no one wants!).
As an example:
If the motor attempts to pull 400 amps but your controller and solenoid are only rated at a meager 275 amps, the motor will not perform properly due to current limitations.

Most new and secondhand golf carts come equipped with 8″ golf cart tires. Larger golf cart tires (20″ to 24″) may give an additional 2-4 MPH of speed to your golf cart without any other improvements such as a new engine, speed controller, etc. Some advantages of upgrading tires for increased speed include:
1. It’s less expensive: Most golf cart tires, even larger / meatier golf cart tires, are less expensive than some other speed improvement alternatives.

2. It’s Simple: Putting larger golf-cart tires on your new or old golf cart couldn’t be simpler! It takes almost no time and is readily accomplished by average people. Simply remove the old tires and replace them, and you’re ready to ride at a faster pace!
